Welcome to the Dodgers

Welcome to the Dodgers, Ned.  On behalf of our organization, and fans, we are very happy to have you leave the Giants for the Dodgers.  You have made an excellent decision.

For all of you who are just getting to know Ned, let me tell you a little bit about him.  He has a tremendous background in baseball, as he worked for the Cubs and the Giants.  He has spent countless hours behind the batting cages, in minor league towns and amateur work-outs learning how to evaluate talent.  He knows one of the greatest secrets in baseball; he knows how to build a balanced roster of guys who play for the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

Ned has certainly paid his dues.  He has served under talented general managers, dealt with the toughest of agents and navigated challenging baseball situations.  Now he has the opportunity to show what he learned, and to use his experience and expertise to lead the Dodger organization to the Fall Classic.  He knows how to surround himself with people who are loyal, honest and trustworthy.

Ned

Last, but certainly not least, I don?t like Ned because he?s Italian, I love him because I?m Italian!

Tommy –
I was up to celebrate the 19955 Dodgers weekend at Cooperstown and was pleased to see you there in person, however I was

not pleased to see you in a RED vest of all things. What gives? No Dodger Blue vest!

What are the odds that Tommy will stab Ned in the back by the all-star break?

Tommy, the bleed blue guy!

If Orel Hershiser is hired to be a manager (a long shot, I know), will you be his bench coach teaching him your valuable tools? Like you said before, it is important to continue Dodgers tradition by having former Dodgers players involved with this organization.

May God be with you,

David (Brooklyn born)

Die Hard Dodger fan

Tommy,
I have been a life long Dodger fan until the day Mr. McCourt hired Colleti! That man wouldn’t know honesty or integrity if bit him on the ***! Frankly, I hope it doesn’t take until the all-star break before you stab him in the back (as mentioned above) because it is about time that Ned Colleti get his! I can only hope for a losing season so the reflection would be on Ned–AN ABSOLUTE LOSER!

Tommy, I’m buying five copies of “The Dodgers – 120 years of Dodger Baseball”. Is there any chance I could get you to autograph them for me? They’re for Christmas presents, so it’s not last minute. I live in Bellflower and would be happy to meet you wherever and whenevr convenient. Thanks…..Nick

If you love Italy so much, ya fat tub of lard, go back there. I’ll buy the plane ticket myself. This is the United States, and nobody cares where somebody’s poor and disheleved ancestors came from before they illegally entered this country.

Geez, what’s up with all the negativity here in the comments? Must be Giants fans masquerading as mad Dodger fans.

Anyway, good luck to Mr. Colleti and the Dodgers. Hopefully he will straighten out the mess and put a winning team on the field next season.

Dear Mr. Lasorda,

As a lifelong baseball fan in Portland, Oregon, I have always admired you and the Dodgers.

In the 1960’s the Northwest had no baseball team (the Pilots and Mariners were years away) – and my friends were mostly split between the Giants and the Dodgers.

If not for Al Kaline and the Tigers I would have been a Dodger fan – but in the National League I AM a Dodger fan and a Tommy Lasorda fan – we LOVE you in Portland.

Damian Ranger

Tommy, my parents loved you so much! My grandma loved you too. When I was a kid my grandma used to watch you manage the Dodgers on our front porch in black and white; I know color TV was in but not for her. I was only 4. I thought Valenzuela was her son; my parents would laugh about it and I wouldn’t get it. I truely believed that Valenzuela was her son. When you guys lost, she cryed. When Valenzuela lost… she really cried; alot. That is when I became a big Dodger fan! My 2 sisters and 1 Bro. also became fans. I will always love my grandma for bleeding Dodger Blue; I miss her. I miss my dad, I miss my mother. They loved the Dodgers. 1988; When Gibson hit that homer in the bottom of the ninth it was the best father son homer couch potato watching feeling anyone can ever feel. I couldn’t stop laughing; my pops was worse, he laughed alot more than I did. I miss the man. If he was alive today he would be about your age Tommy. Hope to meet you soon; I bleed Dodger Blue!

You know, Tommy, even “USA Today”s Sports Weekley”, has a column in the Nopvember 16 issue, about the “notion” of you undercutting any one’s authorty. it even satate it “isn’t clear weither (Lasorda) was undermining Depo to McCourt. “but enough behind scenes, some from other MLB officials, and a lot from former Dodger ececutives how much Lasorda really does undercut people, might have experenced baseball people wondering if the (Dodgers’ job) is worth all of that….”
I agree with the above comments. What are you going to do that Valatine is not avilable? Woul you really have shared the “limelite’ you crave so much, with him?

Well if emorgan (above) is wondering about negativity, just you wait and see. This is no mad Giant fan masquerading just a disgusted Dodger fan who’s seen their team go from bad to worse. The folks up in SF are probably singing and dancing like the munchkins from the Wizard of Oz! “The witch is gone” only to come here to LA! Mark my words, Ned Colleti will make our organization worse than it has ever been!

I think Dodgers fans should get behind the experienced Colletti, lets see what happens in the next couple years, we did it through the murdock era!; the decision has been made, now the next thing: manager pinella, fregosi, hershiser??? Come on Ned Deliver the Dodgers a Pennant and WS ring!

Hello Tommy again.

I found out that Orel Hershiser was promoted to the front office position within the organization of Texas Rangers. It means almost no chance he ever will work for Dodgers again.

I would like to remind you again that you said that it is important to have former Dodgers players working for Dodgers to continue Dodgers Traditon. What about former great 2nd baseman Dodger Davey Lopes???? He used to manage Milwaukee Brewers which were so lousy team as its GM did not improve the team almost at all.

Davey currently is 1st base coach with San Diego Padres if my memory serves me right. Davey Lopes is a truly Dodger and knows what it is like being part of Dodgers tradition because he first played for Dodgers in 1970’s.

Jim Fregosi is a good person to be a manager for any team but does he know the Dodgers tradition? It remains to be seen.

Hopefully I won’t be judged as someone trying to be GM here.

Why don’t you let Ned Colleti know about him.

Fingers crossed!

David

a pure Dodger fan

Hi Tommy,
The only thing in LA that is always a constant is that Tommy Lasorda Will be Dodger Blue and we will always love you for That.I saw today That Carlos delgado is on the Fl Chopping Block and his Numbers Look Like A great Fit all the way around! Hits Homers avg rbi and scores with a Moderate Salary!I Pulled for Choi the whole season and was hoping he could really pull it together but Delgado has a very impressive record and I was wondering what the chances would be of Delgado making the trip west to become a Dodger?Garvey was My hero in little league and I was 1st baseman for my major and sr league Dodger teams so it hurts my heart to see 1st base without avg, pop, defense and Heart.

While I’m on this Rant

Can I ask about when Vin is going to get some support?jerry steiner spent more time talking about the mets and PEDRO….. then the Dodgers this past season……..Seem like Eddie Martinez on KFWB Has alot more Dodger Blue in his veins and has the voice to back Vin and Lead Rick who is another Dodger great.

Thank you for your Ongoing

Support and Work Mr. Lasorda you have my deepest thanks and greatest wishes!

GO DODGER BLUE!!!!!

hey Tommy,
I ,too am excited by the hiring of Ned. I think all Dodger fans need to give him their support. Now we need a field general like yourself who will remain with the Dodgers for twenty or thirty years!

We love you Tommy, and GO DODGERS!!

Tommy,

Let’s get Fregosi. Whaddya say?

G

Hey disgusteddodger guy; shut up! You’re telling me that you don’t agree with what Tommy wrote; Ned has a tremendous backgrond in baseball. He spent half his life dealing with baseball, ALREADY bud! Did you even listen in on the press conference when Frank introduced Ned as the Dodgers new GM? Probably not Mr. Disgust. Ned is no loser you idiot; look up his career before start running your mouth. You are not a Dodger fan! I’m kicking you out of L.A.; for good. Move to SanFran because your statements are ***! Welcome to the Dodgers Ned! The best baseball org. on the planet! Love you Tommy; Go BIG BLUE!

Well boys and girls, look what some of these nasty people are saying about Mr. Lasorda. Remember, when you ask your parents to take you to a game, that these people are buying tickets, too. They are Dodger fans but they are just a little skeptical and sarcastic. They do not have good manners either.

Despite this, you will have a good time. Ask your parents who Tommy Lasorda is and what he used to do for the Dodgers many years ago. He was one of the best managers the Dodgers and baseball ever knew. He took over for the great Walter Alston and managed for many, many years.

People like to complain about anything, but don’t you be a complainer. Be a winner. Listen to your parents, say your prayers and be good to those around you. The world will be a little better from your efforts. Remember, Tommy Lasorda also has a wonderful sense of humor, one that “most” LA Dodger fans have really appreciated over the years.

To you, Mr. Lasorda, have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We, the “true” Dodger fans, will always remember what you did and what you continue to do for our beloved team.

if all of you are dodger fans, you will all pull together. no bickering about ned, tommy and his quest for bobby. let’s say tommy is behind depo’s sacking, what the heck?!? he’s an adviser to the mccourts – that’s his job. and besides, depo deserves it. who among here felt good when he traded away paulie midway through the ’04 season? sure the dodgers won their first post season game that year since ’88, but won’t they without penny and choi? also, i was amazed that this “konerko-for-shaw” issue floated. had the white sox didn’t win the series, will there be such issues for that trade? and oh, need i remind you that there was a consistent run producing guy back then playing 1st base at chavez ravine wearing #23?

good luck to ned and whoever he picks as field manager … (speaking of #23, does he have a shot of returning to the organization as a coach or perhaps a manager, now that #55 is not available at the moment?)

good luck to the mccourts …

good luck to you tommy …

good luck to everyone of us – true dodger fans – who will support the team no matter what.

(bleeding blue here in manila, phil)

I have stopped reading Tommy?s blog, because of all the negative comments made by Dodger fans. Growing up in L.A., and being a Dodger fan (since I was born) ? my very first game EVER was opening day in April of 1962 when I was 2 yrs old ? we NEVER were so negative. The first taste of negativity I came in to contact with a baseball team was when I moved to San Francisco. The fans up here can be very negative about all their teams. Come on now if you really are ?true blue? Dodger fans, you will back your team whoever is at the helm or on the field! You may not like or agree with them, but you HAVE TO SUPPORT THEM. If you can?t do that, maybe you should find another team to cheer for. Like Alvin (bambino640) said, good luck to everyone of us – the TRUE Dodger fans – who will support the team no matter what!!!!!

Tommy, HAPPY HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU and thanks for being a constant reminder of why I love, not only baseball, but the Dodgers so much!

Stephanie (living in San Francisco and still a true blue fan – although the City up here doesn’t make it easy to be so!)

Tommy,
I hope Bobby Valentine is not out of the picture as a potential manager. I was an exchange prof in Tokyo from 1995 to 1996, during Bobby’s first stint there. I saw him bring his Chiba Lotte Marines into the Tokyo Dome and saw any number of his interviews after games. He is a very charismatic guy, a great leader, and has become an even more effective manager in his second stint in Japan. Yes, he’s signed a contract, but with an out-clause. I know he’s your guy. How do we make him the Dodgers’ guy?

decisions are made to be final. i’m sure the decision to fire depo and hire ned have been thought well over. dodgers should just keep improving.
i hope they get furcal and giles!! they should help support kent’s bat…and hopefull all the injuries would be over and if all these were obtained, expect to see a title-contending team!!

GO DODGERS!! LA BLUE!!

P.S. – f*** disgusteddodgers!!

if u got nothing good to say, don’t say nothing at all

Hi Tommy,
Apparently some of your readers cannot comprenhend what they read; like Enrique M. As I said, Ned Colleti wouldn’t know honesty or integrity if it bit him on the ***! I know all about Ned’s background in baseball and therefor feel the way I do. There was a very good reason that AZ did not even entertain the idea of consideration when they needed a GM—J Moorad knows the REAL Ned. Isn’t just like Ned to turn his personal trip into a business when it came to his old buddy Brian Sabean’s wedding. Ned had already planned on the trip to FL before his windfall of luck gets the GM position. “Coincidentialy” he interviews Fergosi the same time in FL?? Sure he does! He a snake but not a stupid one! So the Dodgers pick up the tab for his first class ticket, his limo pickup, his 5 star hotel suite, his bar tab and all meals for the weekend of fun are expensed to the team!! That’s Ned’s integrity for you! Are the folks in accounting paying attention? I sure his expense report has crossed your desk by now and it is just the begining folks! Paying him over a Million dollars isn’t enough, he expects the Dodgers to pay for everything! But what a great guy isn’t he??!!! NOT!!!

So fellow Dodger fans, don’t be surprised when we can’t sign top tier free agents because we don’t have the salary, over a million of it is being WASTED on Colleti. Ned may have spent half his life in baseball as Enrique pointed out, it doesn’t mean he will make a good GM! Just like Steinbrenner can build the most elite pitching staff and team and still not have a recent World Series Title. At least George doesn’t try to hide the fact that he is an ***, Ned just builds smoke screens and pretends that he is not.

What is wrong with the Dodgers front office? Rafael Furcal is Colletti’s first order of business? The Dogers used to be the envy of all of baseball, now the rest of MLB points and laughs at us in derision. What the **** is wrong with Cesar Isturis? Why is this meathead negotiating for a shortstop when we have a great one alreay?

It has been awhile and I am over the Jim Tracy and Paul Depodesta situation as we hope nothing but the best for Jim Tracy and Paul Depodesta
in all their future endeavours!Ned Colletti has done a great thing in acquiring Rafael Furcal as now our Los Angeles Dodgers have probably the best shorstop and second baseman, of course none other than Superman, Mr.Indesctructable Our vey own Jeff Kent, combination in all of baseball1!Way to start off Ned Colletti, keep up the great work as we look forward to a championship season for our beloved Los Angeles Dodgers and all their fans!

A$$man – how stupid can you be.
Did we need a leadoff hitter? Did we need somebody who can steal some bases? Do we need somebody who can be on base on a regular basis? Furcal fills all these holes. And no Izturis is not going anywhere think about the future with Furcal and Izturis playing in the same infield, no ball gets up the middle. So yes it is expensive to pay basically 13 million a year for a shortstop but when you think of everything Furcal will bring to the Dodgers then I think it was a good move.

I have been a Dodger fan since 1981 and I have survived the ups and downs of being a Dodger fan, but I have stuck it out. But I still have concerns. Before Depo got the ax, there was a lot of talk of returning to the days of yore in hiring the new manager. Names like Hershiser, Gibson, and Valentine were being bounced around. Now I know Orel’s got a sweet new gig in Texas and Valentine is happy over in Japan, but it seems to me that the focus has shifted back to filling the manager’s job with an “outsider”. I guess its the Dodger Blue in me that is hoping for someone like Davey Lopes or Steve Yeager to take the helm. But I guess its wait and see. I was skeptical when Tracy was hired, but I came around. The most important thing is ending the 17 year pennant-less drought! (Longest streak since Brooklyn!) GO DODGERS!!!

Before people start criticizing Ned Colletti, we should give him a chance at bringing this team back to what it once was. I am sure SF giants fans are now jealous of our new GM. Lets not forget the SF Giants were a threat in the NL West under his management. I have confidence that he will make the Dodgers stand on top of the West in Oct.

I just want to say it is sad to see Milton Bradley leave and Antonio Perez.Ned,I think you are going to fast, man.Slow Down. You weren’t here, but it was Antonio Perez’s smash triple that broke up Pedro Martinez’s
no hitter in the eigth inning

to save our Los Angeles Dodgers face last year! When hitters do something like that you know they are good ball players and you never forget these important incidents! He is a very good clutch hitter and good utility man!Can Cesar Izturis hit better than .297? No!I’ll say it again.Firing Paul Depodsta and Jim Tracy was not the answer!I am not here to bash Ned Colletti. You should have hired me as a special consultant because nobody knows and loves and has a complete beat of the Pulse of our beloved Los Angeles Dodgers more than I.I love the Los Angeles always and forever!

My last sentence should read, I will always love the Los Angeles Dodgers always and forever!

With the signing of Bill Mueller, I can now see the logic and direction more clearly of our Los Angeles Dodgers, although I still think Antonio Perez is a good last man to have on the bench, particularly for his hitting as we hope nothing but the best for him and Milton Bradley in all their future endeavours with the Oakland Athletics, as we did get a very good player in Andre Ethier! With Jeff Kent,Rafael Furcal,Bill Mueller,Cesar Izturis and Willy Aybar this is the nucleus of a great infield with tremendous depth as well, which shows tremendous promise for 2006.Ned Colletti has the vision for a great team and his decision making is precise and fills all the voids completely! It would be awesome if we are lacking nothing and have an abundance in every position at the start of 2006, so we could play the game properly with no strain,at a high comfort level, enjoy the season and go to the World Series in great Los Angeles Dodger fashion!Ned Colletti is proving that he means business and that he will do everything in his power to f1eld the best team possible and ultimately to win the World Series!

I am broken hearted over the loss of Milton Bradley and Antonio Perez.Guys have we lost what is really right to do or is winning at all costs the most important!Antonio Perez deserved a shot for this year just that he broke up the no hitter is good enough foe me!I can’t take all these changes!MCcourt,Colletti,Lasorda, have we lost the art of staying with a person and believing in them ,then going out this all for win attitude!Tommy, you know yourself it takes a special chemistry to be great, and you were one of the best for staying with people and seeing them through! There is so many changes with the Dodgers,I take the trades personal and it is very hard to deal with these changes because a team is a family and there are so many divorces.I really have trouble coping with these and I’m not do sure if winning will solve it!The older I get,the more I am convinced there are more important issues than winning!

It is far more important to do what is right, than to base you decisions on winning! This is the only thing that matters!

Milton Bradley and Antonio Perez, WE HOPE YOU REMAIN OUR FRIENDS FOREVER.we will miss you very much!Milton for what it’s worth I am sure Superman JEFF KENT thinks you are A GREAT PLAYER AND THAT THIS WAS JUST A MISUNDERSTANDING THAT’S ALL!As a Canadian, I would like to say that we have the greatest neighbors anybody could have in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

Frank McCourt,Ned Colletti and Tommy Lasorda please heed this message!YOU HAVE GOT TO SIGN JEF WEAVER!With the team
as is now, barring injury,Jeff Weaver will win between 17 and 20 games in 2006.I followed the Los Angeles Dodgers very closely last year and there was to much strain on the pitching staff and for Jeff Weaver, which because of all the upgrades we have made the pitchers will only be better and Jeff Weaver is in his prime AT 29 years young!WE HAVE GOT TO SIGN HIM AT ALL COSTS IF WE WANT TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES!He has been the workhorse of the pitching staff the last 2 years WITH 27 WINS AND 444 innings pitched.Derek Lowe,Brad Penny,Odallis Perez and Brett Tomko will produce with Jeff Weaver, barring injuries, somewhere between 75 and 90 victories! We have made a great acquistion in Brett Tomko, now leave the pitching staff alone and sign Jeff Weaver! You talk about World Series, Dodgers, you are not serious enough because we should have signed Jeff Weaver! It shows you are not on the ball for the World Series!Get on the ball and sign Jeff Weaver now and quit being a pretender and be a contender!I told you,you should have hired me!JOYFUL CHRISTMAS AND HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE!

I heard we are after David Wells. If we sign him this is fantastic, but we have to sign Jeff Weaver too!Signing David Wells only will not do it for us for the World Series, but signing both Jeff Weaver and David Wells will really give us a run at the World Series!Don’t just have David wells on your mind only!Let us have a healthy surplus to get rid of all the strain so our pitchers can pitch with no strain and total confidence! What if one of our starters gets injured! Also,we can use one for middle relief!IT WILL BE A BIG MISTAKE TO SIGN DAVID WELLS ONLY AND NOT JEFF WEAVER!LET US BE PERFECT IN ALL OUR MANEUVERS SO THERE WILL NO WEAKNESSES ON THE TEAM!ALL PEACE AND JOY TO EVERYONE!

We will not win the World Series,we let Jeff Weaver go!
McCourt,Colletti, Lasorda, you don’t know how to build a champion and you get paid?Tommy, don’t you remember the last time we won is 17 years ago!YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN HOW TO BUILD A CHAMPION!You are cheating all your fans and yourselves! This is totally disgusting and disappointing again, agiain, again, again and again and again and again and again and again!

We still have to the 8th to negotiate with Jeff Weaver RIGHT? All is not lost!We have made some great moves towards making and winning the World Series! The best move would be to sign Jeff Weaver!Althugh his salary is high and we are reaching $100 million in payroll, so what!LOOK AT THE YANKEES WITH THEIR $200 MILLION PAYROLL!George Steinbrenner is a brilliant man because he puts the fans first! He wants nothing but the best for the New York Yankee fans and he has his heart in the right place because this is what its all about!THE FANS!LOOK AT THEIR TEAM YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT THEY ARE ALWAYS CLOSE TO WINNING THE WORLD SERIES AS THEY ARE ALWAYS A GREAT TEAM!AND WHO DO THEY PLAY FOR?,THE NEW YORK YANKEE FANS!WHY DO YOU THINK THEY GOT OVER 4 MILLION FANS?I AM NOT A BIG SHOT GUY HERE BUT I AM A TRUE LOS ANGELES DODGER FAN AND IT KILLS ME THAT WE
HAVE NOT SIGNED JEFF WEAVER!Thhe guy is fantastic and a great hitting pitcher too! IF HE GOT 14 WINS WITH THE TEAM LAST YEAR,HE WOULD BE A 20 GAME WINNER THIS YEAR!WITH DEREK LOWE,BRAD PENNY,ODALIS PEREZ AND BRETT TOMKO AND JEFF WEAVER WITH THE TEAM WE HAVE NOW,MAYBE ANOTHER POWER HITTER,THIS TEAM WOULD BE LETHAL AND A DANGEROUS THREAT TO GO THE THE WORLD SERIES AND WIN IT!11 games in the post season would produce around $20 MILLION IN TICKET SALES ALONE!C’MON GUYS DO YOU WANT TO WIN IT OR NOT?FOLLOW GEORGE STEINBRENNERS’WAY AND WE’LL HAVE 4 million fans in 2006 so sign JEFF WEAVER!C’MON JEFF WEAVER SIGN THIS THING UP WITH YOUR TEAM THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS ALWAYS!PEACE AND JOY TO EVERYONE IN DODGERVILLE!

It is very hard to let go of Duaner Sanchez and Steve Schmoll,as we really wish them all the best with the New York Mets but it is great our Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired Jae Seo
to solidify the starting rotation and Tim Hamulack as insurance!Great Job, Ned Colletti! Now if Jeff Weaver can sign,we would not only have tremendous depth, but also tremendous quality putting a World Series appearance and victory a real possibilty as this team is taking on a powerful character! All peace and joy to everyone!

I KNOW IT LOOKS BLEAK FOR JEFF WEAVER TO RESIGN, BUT GIVE IT ALL YOU HAVE NED COLLETTI!JEFF,DON’T YOU WANT TO WIN A WORLD SERIES!DO IT FOR ALL YOUR LOS ANGELES DODGER FANS.C’MON JEFF,THERE IS NO OTHER CLUB FOR YOU BUT THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS!THIS WILL BE A MAJOR,MAJOR DISAPPOINMENT!C’MON JEFF WEAVER, DO THE RIGHT THING AND RESIGN!ALL PEACE AND JOY TO EVERYONE!

THE TOP PRIORITY FOR A WORLD
SERIES WAS THE SIGNING OF JEFF WEAVER!It is no no use to make all these other great moves, without the great prize, Jeff Weaver! We will fall short of the World Series

because the Dodgers don’t do right! What is the use to be 80% better and not 100%!It KILLS me because I love the Los Angeles Dodgers so much and you guys with all your money and power still fall way short!DISCOURAGING,DISGUSTING AND DEPRESSING!

MCCOURT,LASORDA,COLLETTI WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU!WE HAVE IT ALL IN OUR HANDS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST IN 2006 OR THE BEST WITH JEFF WEAVER!YOU SAY YOU LOVE THE DODGERS AND THEIR FANS YOU ARE ALL LIARS!
WE WOULD STRIKE FEAR INTO THE TEAMS WITH JEFF WEAVER AND ALL THE GREAT MOVES AND THE REST OF THE PITCHING STAFF!IF YOU LOVE THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS,WHICH REALLY YOU DON’T, YOU WOULD HAVE SIGNED JEFF WEAVER ALREADY!WE WON’T MAKE IT WITHOUT JEFF WEAVER!DON’T YOU REALLY UNDERSTAND?

HOW CAN NED COLLETTI SITE DIFFERENT PHILOSPHIES ON HOW MUCH JEFF WEAVER IS WORTH WHEN HE PAID RAFAEL FURCAL 39 MILLION FOR THREE YEARS!JEFF WEAVER IS THE HEART OF THE LOS ANGELES DODGER PITCHING STAFF JUST LIKE SUPERMAN JEFF KENT IS THE HEART OF THE TEAM!
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TAKE OUT THE HEART?DEREK LOWE,BRAD PENNY,ODALIS PEREZ,YOU GUYS ARE GREAT BUT BRAD AND ODALIS YOU HAVE TO ADMIT YOU WERE INJURED AND JEFF WEAVER WAS THE BACKBONE OF THE STAFF,AS I MENTIONED BEFORE BARRING INJURY AND WITH BRETT TOMKO AND NEWLY ACQUIRED JAE SEO AND WITH THE TEAM NOW, ALL YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO FEED OFF THE TEAM AND EACH OTHER AND YOU WILL BE ONE OF THE BEST TEAMS IN ALL OF BASEBALL,IF NOT THE BEST!LISTEN,NED COLLETTI,YOU HAVE DONE A FANTASTIC JOB, BUT I DON’T KNOW WHY,YOU HAVE NOT HANDLED THE JEFF WEAVER SITUATION WITH THE HONEST AND INTEGRITY OF ALL YOUR OTHER MOVES!JEFF WEAVER IS WORTH THE MONEY,NED C’MON.WITH THE MOVES YOU HAVE MADE SO FAR THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS HAVE MOVED FIVE STEPS FORWARD, BUT BY NOT SIGNING JEFF WEAVER AND MISHANDLING TOTALLY THIS SITUATION WE NOW MOVE 4 STEPS BACKWARDS!HOW CAN YOU HONESTLY SAY YOU ARE BUILDING A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM WHEN YOU CANNOT EVEN SIGN YOUR ACE!THIS WHOLE SITUATION IS PREPOSTEROUS BECAUSE WE ARE EITHER GOING TO BE THE BEST WITH JEFF WEAVER OR A GOOD TEAM WITHOUT HIM!MCCOURT,LASORDA,COLLETTI YOU HAVE A POSSIBLE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM AND COLLETTI

IS MAKING EVERYBODY NERVOUS!THIS IS KILLING ME THAT YOU ARE LETTING COLLETTI PLAY AROUND AND DESTROY THE POTENTIAL OF A WORLD SERIES CHAMPION BY TOTALLY MISHANDLING THE JEFF WEAVER SITUATION WITH NO INTEGRITY AND HONESTY AND RUINING EVERYTHING!WHAT A DISASTER,DISAPPOINTMENT AND DISGRACE!

MCCOURT,LASORDA AND COLLETTI LET’S DO THIS!COLLETTI,THIS IS YOUR MISTAKE BECAUSE YOU SIGNED RAFAEL FURCAL TO 39 MILLION FOR THREE YEARS!WHAT DO YOU EXPECT JEFF WEAVER TO DO!COLLETTI YOU MEAN YOU HAD ALL THESE MOVES FIGUED OUT AHEAD OF TIME WITHOUT SIGNING JEFF WEAVER THE ACE OF THE PITCHING STAFF!WHERE IS THE INTELLIGENCE HERE FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM!WHAT ARE ALL THE WORKERS DOING AT DODGER STADIUM!MAKING THE STADIUM NICEY NICEY FOR WHAT?FAILURE,THAT’S WHAT HAVING NO CONSIDERATION FOR ALL THE DODGER FANS AND ALL THE DODGER PLAYERS!LASORDA,YOU MENTION WE ARE GOING TO THE FALL CLASSIC WITHOUT JEFF WEAVER!GOES TO SHOW YOU,YOU ARE NOT WITH IT AND WHAT HAPPEN TO THE LOVE FOR THE ALL THE DODGER FANS!WHAT IS THIS DIFFERENCE IN PHILOSOPHY AND OPINION?JUST ADMIT LIKE A MAN TOU MADE A MISTAKE AND MAKE A GENTLEMANS’ AGREEMENT WITH JEFF WEAVER FOR MAY 01,2006 LEANING TOWARDS WHAT HE WANTS!I CAN’T TAKE THE SEASON COMING UP FALLING SHORT FOR ALL THE LOS ANGELES DODGER FANS AND PLAYERS!JEFF WEAVER,WHAT HE HAS SHOWN TO THE CLUB,THE ACE OF THE STAFF,29 YEARS YOUNG IN HIS PRIME,A VERY GOOD HITTER,A VERY GOOD BASERUNNER,A POTENTIAL 20 GAME WINNER WITH THIS TEAM,AND YOU TALK ABOUT CHAMPIONSHIP AND YOU COULDN’T EVEN SIGN HIM!IT KILLS ME AND I AM GOING TO BE VERY SICK!

I know life has to go on as we are signing all our coaches, everybody smiling, having a good time. How can we be content when the Jeff Weaver situation was not resolved! How can the Dodgers be happy and smiling! Is it because they get a pay cheque, and that’s it!Don’t they see how serious it was not to sign Jeff Weaver!Jeff,if there is anyway you could still negotiate with us for May 01,2006 SO YOU CAN HAVE A SHOT AT A WORLD SERIES AND THAT THOUSANDS OF DODGER FANS HEARTS WON’T BE BROKEN!EVEN IN SARAH MORRIS’ COLUMN THE BIG QUESTION WAS AREN’T WE GOING TO SIGN JEFF WEAVER?C’MON NED,THE BOTTOM LINE IS WE HAD TO SIGN JEFF WEAVER!EVERYBODY SMILING,GRADY LITTLE ETC.,I’M NOT!WHY DON’T YOU TELL ALL THE DODGER FANS THE REAL REASON WHY HE WASN’T SIGNED?EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE IN PHILOSOPHY AND OPINION!DON’T YOU THINK THE DODGERS FANS HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW?THE PITCHING STAFF OF DEREK LOWE,JEFF WEAVER,BRAD PENNY,ODALIS PEREZ,BRETT TOMKO AND JAO SAO WOULD HAVE BEEN FEARED,ESPECIALLY WITH THE TEAM NOW!IS THERE ANY WAY WE COULD STRIKE A DEAL NOW FOR THE MAY 01,2006 SIGNING!I AM A DEJECTED DODGER FAN!

This could have been so easy with all the great moves Ned Colletti made To go to the World Series!BUT THEN, THE BIGGEST BLUNDER OF THE CENTURY IN NOT SIGNING JEFF WEAVER WHO EXPECTED TO SIGN IS SO RIDICOULOUS IT CAN’T BE PUT INTO WORDS!BECAUSE OF THIS OUTRAGEOUS BLUNDER ALL THE WORK FOR THE TEAM IS FOR NAUGHT!MCCOURT,LASORDA,COLLETTI YOU DON’T GET IT YET!YOU ARE STRIVING FOR THIRD BEST NOT THE BEST!THAT MEANS THAT’S WANT YOU WANT FOR YOUR OWN FAMILIES,THIRD BEST NOT THE BEST!WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE TRUE LOS ANGELES DODGER TRADITION!MCCOURT,LASORDA,COLLETTI,THIS IS AN INSULT TO THE INTEGRITY OF ALL THE LOS ANGELES DODGER FANS,YOURSELVES, AND THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES!COLLETTI,HOW COULD YOU GO ON KNOWING YOUR CHEATING ALL THE LOS ANGELES DODGER FANS,THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES AND YOURSELF BY NOT SIGNING A DODGER GREAT IN JEFF WEAVER!ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL!

Tommy,I read the comments of some fans who beleive that you harpooned the carreer of Paul De Podesta. He shot himself in the head, let alone the foot. I have been a Dodger fan for more than 50 years. I remember not speaking to my father for the duration of every Dodger vs. Giant series because HE was a Giant fan. I dreamed of playing in a Dodger uniform at second base until my Baseball idol, our beloved captain and freind in Heaven, Pee Wee Reese would say to me, kid, take over and do it the way a Dodger Shortstop should do it.
I so loved the Dodger ways that I have a copy of Al Campnis’ How to Play Dodger Baseball on my night stand. It was a valuable tool when I managed in little leage and Babe Ruth Baseball as was the instructional tape you sent me many years ago.

The point of this whole speech is to say that the Dodgers are a proud organizatiton which was noted for many things but the most important of which was CHARACTER!

The great Branch Rickey signed Jackie Robinson because he was a man who had the CHARACHTER to withstand the verbal abuse he bore without fighting back. Those palyes who protested demonstrated that they were not worthy to wear the Dodger uniform. Some were moved out and some stayed. The great teams that went to the World Serieis in 1947,1949,1952, 1953 1955 and 1956 had CHARACHTER. They were GENTLEMEN who could play baseball and as a team, they were champions in more than just baseball.

The Dodger organization made some costly errors in judgement starting with Sid Claire trading Mike Piazza. The Paul LoDuca trade was another horror show but signing Milto Bradley, the antithesis of a Dodger, was one of the worst moves ever in Dodger history.

Well Mike is long gone and headed for the Hall of Fame,Loduca is the heart and sole of the Marlins, Sean Green is also gone as well as Jim Tracy,a good baseball man.

It is time to turn the page and move on. The signing of Furcal, and Garciapara are steps in the direction of bringing CHARACTER back to the Dodgers. I remember talking to you once at your brother’s restaurant and you talked about the “things” scouts in the Dodger organization, guys like Gil Bussetti would look for. They were not always, speed, arm strength and power to all fields. When the Dodger organization stopped scouting the way you told me they used to,we slipped as an organization and failed our fans and ourselves. I think that the game needs men of CHARACHTER on the field. There will always be some bad actors in the game, there always have been.We have to realize that and rather than sign someone that can play but is a creep, sign the guy who will work hard to get better and be a better player and help his team win. The great Nellie Fox who was inducted into the Hall of Fame on the same day as you taught a young secondbaseman that the guys who will do anything asked of them to help their team win will be able to stay in the game for a long time. Work hard to get better,an you will succeed. The kid he gave that sage advice to was Joe Morgan.

As for your detractors who seem to beleive that Peter Gammos has the whole story, I say that Baseball is a business that breaks hearts as well as budgets. There are always sources in an organization who will say what they say because they have an ax to grind. You managed the team that guys like me dreamed of joining and you did it because some great minds recognized that you could do it. Like the beer commercial where you were asked “Hey Tommy, you were 1 and 3 in the majors. How did you stay with the Dodgers so long-your answer was “I managed”. Campanis and O’Malley knew the game and knew what they were doing. Walter Alston had you as his third base coach. You managed because you deserved to manage.

Put aside the smile, the stories, the autographs and the Olympic Gold Medal, you know the game and I believe that you would never do anything to ruin a man’s carreer. GM’s get it wrong as well as right. I hope the PROTOTYPE DODGER returns.

One more point. You had a team mate that left the game with more home runs than any other National Leage player. He was the greates first baseman I ever saw. He was the gentle giant in the locker room who lived and died in Brooklyn and yet my beloved Dodgers have not retired the number 14 in honor of the Great Gil Hodges. That man defined CHARACTER. his CLOSEST BUDDIES,PEE WEE,JACKIE,AND DUKE,are so honeored in Cooperstomw and in Dodger Stadim. So should Gil Hodges for ever be honored in Dodger Stadium.Let us not forget that it was he who scored the winning run on the one game playoff to get the Dodgers to the 1959 world series when we defeated the White Sox who were managed by the great former Dodger,Al Lopez. Please ask Mr. Mc Cort to retire his #14 while Mrs. Hodges is still alive to see it.

Thanks for all you have meant to us old fans.

Hi Tommy,
I hope you have a chance to read this short note and may be able to help me. I have found a signed baseball with what may be an old dogers team manged by Walt Alston. He singed this ball along with Duke Snider, Pee Wee Peese, Roger Craig,Cuck Dressen,Al Walker,Carles Neal and many others. with the few names that I have provided could you tell me what year this team may have played. Or a contact that could help me identify all the players.

anyone else that may be able to help please contact me.

Thank you
