Eye Love the Dodgers

Augustine 1.JPGI was the keynote speaker at a luncheon yesterday for the Disabled Veterans Business Council of California.  I was proud to do it because the DVBC sets up veterans who run their own businesses with clientelle.

It is always a privilege to be amongst America’s heroes, the men and women who have fought for, and sacrificed so much for us.  I have been to Walter Reed a few times and every time I go I am amazed that despite the loss of limbs, and other devistating injuries, the troops want to go back.  They want to rejoin their commrades and finish the mission.

They are my heroes.

Yesterday I met someone who really impressed me.  His name is Augustine Curiel, and he served in the U.S. Navy  First, and most importantly, he impressed me with his call to duty as he served his country in war.  Second, he is a Dodger fan.

How do I know that?

Well, he lost an eye, and embedded in his glass eye is the Dodger logo.

There’s a saying in this country; if you don’t pull for the Dodgers, you may not get into heaven.  We know Augustine is in!

WOW Tommy, It’s good to know, I got a chance to go to heaven.

Well – I guess I won’t get into heaven then! lol! What a great story!

Dear Uncle Tommy,

This might be a reach, but I figure it doesn’t hurt to ask. My great grandfather, who was a huge dodger fan, got me involved with the dodgers when i was 8 years and I’m 31 now.
He’s been a fan as far as I can remember. Anyways one of his all time favorite dodgers was Andre Ethier. Over the last couple years thats all my grandfather would talk about. Andre could do no wrong in his eyes. Well he pasted away this past weekend and I was wondering if it would be possible to get Andre Ethier’s autograph to give to my grandfather as we lay him to rest next weekend. It would mean a lot but I would understand if not. Anyways Go Dodgers. Lets sweep those Halos! My email is iecommissioner@yahoo.com

That is taking it to a whole different level…:-)
Thanks to all the men and women in uniform past, present and future….WE LOVE YOU ALL🙂

Dear Tommy,

As you can tell from my user name I’m a Yankees fan, but I want to tell you that I think you are the greatest ambassador there has ever been for Major League Baseball. That said, I am also a baseball fan at heart. Greatest sport ever made. I am also a veteran and I want to salute Augustine Curiel for his service to his country and his obvious love for the Dodgers. I wish him nothing but God’s blessings upon his life and join others who pray for our soldiers, sailors and airmen who protect us around the world.

As a side note I met you nearly two years ago at my church’s harvest festival in October of 2007. I had the privilege of escorting you around the Rock Community Church property and you were kind enough to sign some baseball’s for me and my boys. Thank you for your kindness and participation in our project.

God Bless!!
